Magazine editor turned blogger Alison Perry has been obsessed with travel since her early 20s, with friends regularly using her as a walking talking hotel guide before booking trips. Her background in women’s magazines like More and Look mean she is always looking for a fresh angle and spotting new trends. And she simply has to find out about the best places to eat, drink, and entertain kids wherever she goes.
Alison has written features for Grazia, Good Living, OK! and Mother & Baby, has appeared on national radio and TV and is a regular speaker at blogging conferences. She lives in London with her husband and daughter, born in 2010.
Alison has worked with Walt Disney World, Mark Warner, Luxury Family Hotels, Scott Dunn Travel and Sovereign, and she blogs over at Not Another Mummy Blog about family life, travel and style.
‘Aged 20, I was all set to head to New York with three friends for New Year’s Eve. The night before, I realised I’d left my passport 500 miles away in my student flat. One dawn round trip from Glasgow to London later, I had my passport in hand and joined my friends on our flight to NYC. But I very nearly had to stay at home…’
‘Red lippy to make me feel human on any long journey, iPad for booking reading (Or child entertaining) and a large bottle of water to keep me hydrated.’
Of course, young children put a safety net on her destinations for a while, but at 12 and 9, GG and The Bug are now much more competent travellers, and Helen is enjoying adventure again, this time as a family. The kids recently devoured their first ski trip, and their travel bucket list already rivals that of most backpackers!
Helen is a copywriter by trade, with family travel and lifestyle articles across a variety of publications. She lives in London with husband Jason and their two children. Helen blogs about family life at Actually Mummy…
“Treating my husband to birthday dinner on a private boat, off Rangali Island in the Maldives. So over the top extravagant, but the memory of a lifetime!”
“Getting my bag stolen on a beach in Spain. I carefully packed everything I owned into my bag, including keys, shoes and underwear. I woke up 2 hours later to find my bag gone. It was a huge test of my Spanish trying to explain at the police station why I was walking the streets barefoot in a bikini!”
“Spare knickers. You never know when a holiday’s going to be so good you want to stay an extra day!”
Katie Ellison blogs over at multi award winning family lifestyle blog Mummy Daddy Me, where she records and documents their memories through words, photos and video. Having always been obsessed with travel, she worked as an account manager for nearly seven years at the world’s largest hotel reservation website booking.com, where she saved every last penny to go on her next holiday or trip. Nowadays she works as a freelance social media manager and lives in Cambridgeshire with her husband and two daughters.
Katie has worked with Mark Warner as one of six bloggers chosen to be Ambassadors, Thomson Holidays, KLM and Sandals.
If I had to chose just one it would be sitting with my new husband on a terrace overlooking the sea in Mexico, on our honeymoon at the Royal Hideaway Hotel. It was Christmas Day 2009 and a saxophonist was playing Christmas songs while we sipped cocktails. We were talking about the possibility of starting a family sometime in the near future. Almost exactly to the day a year later, on Christmas Eve 2010 our beautiful little girl arrived in the world.
Realising there was less than six months left on my passport, two weeks before travelling to Thailand for three months. Cue a mad panic and a day waiting in line at the passport office.
At least three or four books, my camera, and a travel game of Scrabble- there isn’t much to do in the evenings when you have little ones in bed!

‘Collapsing in a fit of hysterical giggles on a Danish supermarket floor aged 8, with my younger brother, after we found a packet of biscuits called Bums. We had to be dragged out by our embarrassed parents, hyperventilating and with tears rolling down our cheeks.’
‘We only left one night of accommodation for our honeymoon road trip round Canada unbooked. We ended up in a motel out of Psycho. We laugh about it now.’
Lavender hand cream to soothe away the stresses, my camera, a notebook and a real book.
