Cornwall is awash with hotels that are just perfect for families. Add to that the milder climate, dramatic scenery and wealth of beaches and tourist attractions, it’s one of our top places to go on a short break. But with so much choice, where should you stay? Here’s our favourite five, but if you think we’ve missed somewhere fantastic, please do comment below and tell us!

number-one1 Polurrian Bay Hotel – An Edwardian hotel which has been brought bang up-to-date with gorgeous interiors and a stunning glass fronted lounge, this is the hotel to stay in if you want seriously chilled vibes while your kids play. Boasting a brilliant free creche, a listening service in the evenings, an indoor and outdoor pool plus outdoor play area, Polurrian Bay Hotel sees guests return time after time to sample the friendly Cornish hospitality. Double rooms start at £120 a night and dinner, bed and breakfast packages are available too. Book at polurrianhotel.com

Polurrian Bay review

2 The Rosevine – A cross between hotel and apartments, The Rosevine oozes laid-back seaside chic. Small, relaxed and with staff who can’t do enough for you, the hotel has an indoor pool, playroom, kids’ movies and in-room kitchenettes. So basically everything you might need. And if you’ve forgotten anything like a buggy or steriliser, you can borrow it. We love the adults-only lounge, giving parents a break from the little ones. Oh and the beach is a short walk away so remember to take your bucket and spade! Rooms start at £165 room only. Minimum three night stay applies in July and August.

number-three Watergate Bay Hotel – A firm favourite with families and couple alike, the hotel sits on a cliff, with gorgeous views across the sea. When your kids aren’t building sandcastles on the beach down below, having free surfing lessons (for over 8s) or splashing around in the pool, the Kids’ Zone has a play room and craft room to keep them happy. For you, there are treatment rooms and Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen only a stroll away. Near Padstow (mmm fish and chips) and the Eden Centre, it’s a great spot to base yourselves for a few days. Rooms start at £145 a night for B&B. Book at watergatebay.co.uk

Watergate Bay Hotel

number-four

Sands Resort – just a stone’s throw along the coast from Watergate Bay is this gem. With bright, modern rooms plus indoor and outdoor kids’ play areas, a zip wire, and climbing frames, we had football, mini tennis, a giant chess set, and a maze…plus a spa and 9-hole golf course, it sounds perfect. But wait, there’s more. They even offer to supervise your kids while they eat, allowing you to dine as a couple, and a baby listening service so that you can go for a drink in the evening, knowing your little one is tucked up safely. Rooms start at £46.20 pppn for B&B. Book at sandsresort.co.uk

number-five Hotel Tresanton – Famous hotelier Olga Polizzi is responsible for this place and it’s definitely worth checking out. Super stylish yet friendly and welcoming, they have a Wendy House playroom for kids, a cinema and a children’s garden. There are two family suites and some double rooms can interconnect, giving you plenty of choices for rooms. The hotel can arrange a babysitter for you, or alternatively use their listening service. But make sure you do – a cosy dinner for two at the restaurant here is not to be missed! Rooms start at £200 for bed and breakfast. Book at tresanton.com
