The bees are buzzing on the lavender, the garden hot tub is gently bubbling, the conversation is flowing and the world is being put to rights at Eden Hall Day Spa.
Just one day away from the demands of the desk, the kids, the house. I needed it and it was only the start of the summer holiday. I can only begin to imagine how much it will feel like an escape come September, when the Back to School package I tested out at Eden Hall Spa opens – for a limited period only – for summer holiday frazzled parents.
For me it was a lovely way to round off another blogging year, but come September it would be a perfect way to reconnect with friends after a summer with the family. After a busy summer holiday Mums and Dads need a little time to themselves to refocus. The school hours package is great value at £50, given it gives you access to all the spa facilities 10am-3pm weekdays, exercise classes, robes, towels and a three course lunch. You can add a pick and mix of mini treatment/s for £25 each.
But would a school day be enough time to unwind? Let’s find out.
Chilling in the conservatory
Our annual trip to Eden Hall has a standard routine now. My blogging friends and I drop the kids at school and escape Nottingham for the bordering Leicestershire countryside. Cocooned in our towelling robes we head for the conservatory to have a drink and relax in the comfy sofas and take in the views of the garden. The feeling of space and tranquility immediately brings calm.
This year I chose a juice instead of a coffee, I loved the presentation.
Spa Time
Next it is time to hit the spa and jacuzzi, the heated rooms are beautifully fragrant and relaxing, the pool is tranquil, but the outdoor hot tub in the garden has to be my favourite place at Eden Hall. If you have a shorter day you do have to prioritise, and the lovely thing about going back year on year is I know exactly where I want to spend my time.
It’s amazing how much you can achieve in a relatively short space of time in this setting. Not only did we totally relax, but we solved a business problem one of the group has been mulling for some time.
While Becky and I chatted, Amanda went for an explore, do check out their posts as they have no doubt captured different things to me.
Here we are make up free, happy and glowing after our day. I think we managed to unravel in a shorter day, don’t you?
Ladies that Lunch
All that gossiping, planning and relaxing meant we were really ready for lunch. This is always a treat at Eden Hall, and while we were slightly disappointed by the only veggie starter and main being very similar – salad and cheese – we pass on our concern to the chef and our feedback as a group of 3 vegetarians is much appreciated. It tastes great.
The home made breads and salad bar are a real treat. The fig bread is especially delicious.
The table settings are simple but stylish and we’re chilled out by another waft of lavender picked from the grounds.
Treatment time
There are a choice of special mini treatments as add ons of the Back to School package, each costs only £25 and lasts 25 minutes, they absolutely pack a relaxing punch in that short time. I sampled the Elemis Mini Muscle Ease Wrap, which was the perfect antidote to desk work and my aches and pains from half marathon training.
You slip under warm towels, have your body brushed, then covered in the warming oils of rosemary and maritime pine oil, and then wrapped up in a heated wrap to promote warmth and wellbeing. While the wrap helps the oils soak into your skin, you receive a soothing neck and décolleté massage.
I just caught myself mid snore, before I fell asleep on the treatment table, proof indeed of the levels of relaxation you can achieve in just a short time frame.
My skin felt really smooth afterwards and it worked wonders on my dry legs ready to bare all on holiday. It would be a great way to look after sun kissed skin after the holidays of course too.
There are five mini treatments to choose from:
Elemis Mini Frangipani Melt*
Aromatic Tahitian coconut and frangipani flowers are soaked together to produce a monoi. This scented oil is poured over the body for immediate softness and suppleness. You are then cocooned in a nourishing wrap whilst you let tensions ease away with a relaxing scalp massage.
Elemis Mini Musclease Wrap*
Skin is quenched by the warming oils of rosemary and maritime pine, relieving tension in the joints. You are then enveloped in a wrap to promote warmth and wellbeing. Whilst cocooned, you will receive a relaxing neck and décolleté massage to ease stressed muscles.
Eden Taster Facial*
This treatment includes a cleanse and tone; neck, shoulder, face and scalp massage, followed by exfoliation and an application of luxury moisturiser to finish. Skin will be refreshed and glowing.
Spa Find Back Massage*
A relaxing back massage to help relieve muscular tension; leaving you in a state of complete calm and with soft, supple skin. Perfect for those suffering with aching muscles.
Eden Aromatherapy Associates Scalp Massage*
Relax your mind and allow tension to be washed away. Using frankincense essential oil the Eden scalp massage focuses on key pressure points to induce relaxation.
* all appointment times for treatments are 25 minutes and will be scheduled between 10am and 12.30pm

Gosh I feel relaxed just reading this post! What a wonderful place to spend some time. I need to book myself in there!
This is such a great idea! I’ve only ever seen set 2hr spa slots or a spa day – a school day spa is fab! x
This sounds perfect and more spa’s should take note – imagine dropping the kids off at school and then relaxing in a spa all day – sounds wonderful and much needed for parents up and down the country after the school hols I would think.
